Pottery
Foltz Pottery - Pennsylvania Redware Pottery
Redware pottery is the oldest form of pottery made by the early German settlers in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
The redware tradition in Lancaster County has continued until present day. In 1962 they started to exeperiment with local red clays. Today their pottery has grown into one of the most popular fold potteries in the United States. From three generation of craftsmen, they have revived many old forms and techniques, among them sgrafitto and slipware, both early forms of decorating redware.
Shooner American Redware
Shooner's redware decorations include sgraffito, "fancy" slip, and traditional wavy-line slip on drape-molded plates and platters, as well as a full range of unique wheel-thrown jars, crocks, jugs, and lamps. Every effort is made to accurately reproduce the mellow patina and effects of old age seen only in rare antiques. These efforts include the use of lead in an authentic glaze producing a unique folk art pottery intended for presentation only.
David T. Smith (Turtle Creek Potters)
Turtle Creek Pottery, added in 1984 to The Workshops of David T. Smith, was a natural extension to the business that David and Laura Smith started 15 years before.
The Workshops has a unique and rare wood-fired kiln that is fired regularly, which adds colors and authenticity to Turtlecreek wares that no other reproduction redware pottery has. The pottery is for decorative use only.
